Keith Macaulay might not technically live in Everett yet, but he's already plotting his move here. "I'm in Everett almost every day," he says.
"It helps bring perspective to life."
Growing up in a multilingual household in Miami, Florida (his mom is from Bolivia, and the family speaks Spanish and Portuguese) Keith learned early on to appreciate diversity. His high school had "every type of person you could imagine," an experience that shaped his worldview. "It helps bring perspective to life." That appreciation for varied backgrounds is part of what draws him to the Pacific Northwest.
After moving to Washington, he quickly realized he needed a strategy for surviving "the big dark," and found his answer carving through fresh powder. "I love finding a downhill run in the woods with relatively untouched snow, putting on music, and just getting in the zone," he said. For Keith, skiing isn't about showing off on double black diamonds (though he can handle them), it's meditation in motion.
"Trying different sports leads to more academic and social enrichment."
His other love? Sports. The former baseball and soccer player is now a devoted Mariners fan, which seems fitting for someone who sees sports as a great equalizer. Through his work with Leadership Snohomish County, Keith is tackling sports affordability, with dreams of creating a youth soccer program that would provide scholarships for underprivileged kids. He's seen too many families forced to choose just one sport due to costs, which can backfire when kids burn out. "Trying different sports leads to more academic and social enrichment," he noted.
Keith's economics degree from South Carolina feeds into these community-minded pursuits. He "nerds out" on how microeconomic personal transactions and local trends create ripples in the wider world. He'd love to see an economics resource center in Everett's library system, and advocates for more public transit options and cycling infrastructure (though he's quick to add he's not anti-car, just pro-options).
When he's not dreaming up community improvements, Keith is probably thinking about his fantasy job: COO for a mid-level sports team, where he could work with professionals while staying connected to grassroots community programs. He draws inspiration from the Mexican comedy-drama "Club de Cuervos."
Professionally, Keith works with Ziply Fiber, connecting businesses throughout Everett with high-speed fiber internet, a role that keeps him meeting new people daily and building the long-term relationships he values.
